What does pixel pitch actually look like?
Pick a pitch and see how dense the LED grid is. The minimum viewer distance follows the 1 mm pitch ≈ 1 m rule; individual dots fully blend from roughly 3.4× that distance (the limit of visual acuity). A real wall blends even sooner - glowing LEDs bloom optically.
How to read the simulation
Every dot in the simulation represents one LED. Up close you see a cutout of a 4 × 2.25 m wall at real scale; the distance views shrink the grid exactly as your eye would see it from 3, 5 or 10 metres compared to a typical monitor distance of about 0.6 m.
The comparison is intentionally conservative: a real LED wall looks better than the simulation because glowing diodes bloom into each other. If a pitch looks acceptable here, it will look at least as good installed.
Frequently asked questions
What does pixel pitch mean?
Pixel pitch is the distance between the centres of two neighbouring LED dots in millimetres. The smaller the pitch, the finer the grid and the higher the resolution per square metre - and the higher the screen price.
How far should the viewer stand from an LED screen?
Rule of thumb: the minimum distance in metres equals the pitch in millimetres (P2.9 is roughly 3 m). Individual dots fully blend from about 3.4 times that distance, the limit of human visual acuity. A real wall blends even sooner because glowing LEDs bloom optically.
Why calibrate with a payment card?
A regular monitor does not render millimetres accurately - every display has a different pixel density. A payment card has a standardised size of 85.6 × 54 mm (ISO 7810). After matching the on-screen card to a real one, the simulator knows your display density and renders the grid at true 1:1 scale.
Which pitch for indoor and which for outdoor screens?
Close indoor viewing (control rooms, showrooms) uses 0.9 to 1.9 mm, halls and receptions 1.9 to 2.6 mm, outdoor advertising displays 2.6 to 3.9 mm and billboards viewed from tens of metres 4 to 10 mm. Our LED calculator produces a full design including resolution, power draw and controller.
