Active 3D systems work by tricking the human eye. The glasses are synchronized by an infrared beam reflected off the screen and alternately cover the left and right eye. This creates 3D vision in the human brain. The switching has to be very fast, however, so that the "imperfect" human eye does not perceive any flicker or the alternation of images.

One eye is always darkened using LCD technology in the glasses while the other is uncovered. Synchronization with the projection via an infrared beam emitted from emitters in the auditorium then ensures that each eye sees the image intended for it. Thanks to this, the 3D projection is flawless and the viewer perceives the 3D effects across the entire projection surface.

To make the result as good as possible, the darkening of the two eyes alternates 144 times per second. That is the number of switches between the left and right eye. As a point of interest, the human eye already perceives 24 different static frames per second as continuous motion (the classic film frame rate). That is why we call it "imperfect."
