Metamerism

A phenomenon in which two lights with different spectral compositions have the same colorimetric values and therefore represent the same color according to measurement. A colorimetric match does not require matching spectra. When the measured match diverges from what an individual observer sees, this is metameric failure. See the article Metameric failure: when measurements and the eye judge color differently.
