Surround mix

The gongs are mixed for the auditorium in both 5.1 and 7.1: the sound moves through the room, the surrounds ring out and the subwoofer gives the finale its weight.

Reference level

All gongs are set to cinema reference: at fader 7 they play like a well mixed feature (the loudest second in the centre channel is 85 dBC).

FAQ

What volume should the gong play at?

Reference level, fader 7. The gong then plays like a well mixed feature, with the loudest second in the centre channel at 85 dBC.

Which version should I download, 5.1 or 7.1?

The one that matches the auditorium sound: 7.1 for a room with rear channels (7.1 DS), otherwise 5.1. For 7.1, set the processor to 7.1 DS.

Do I need a KDM for the gongs?

No. The DCPs are unencrypted: unzip the package and ingest the folder into the cinema server, then put the gong in the playlist before the feature.

Can I share or edit the gong?

You can use the gongs freely in your cinema and pass them on unchanged. They are not for sale. We will gladly make a gong with your cinema’s logo.

Test DCPs to set up the auditorium

Before the gong goes into the programme, check the auditorium with our test DCPs: picture, framing, audio channels, sync and surround sound.

DCI alignment pattern→Geometry, convergence, sharpness and colour channels in one chart, with Flat, Scope, F-200 and F-220 framing lines. Full container, 20 s @ 24 fps.Framing F-190 / F-210→F-190 and F-210 framing lines with masking arrows and pixel offsets, plus Flat, Scope and 16:9 for reference. Full container, 20 s @ 24 fps.Audio channel test - 7.1→The 7.1 channels play one after another: first the channel name is spoken, then six seconds of pink noise. Checks the wiring of all eight channels, rear ones included.
